The Corkscrews

These are completely original aphorisms, clever sayings. But they are something more. Each of them is a short collection of words with a curl, a kink and a point.The idea of something with a curl, a kink and a point has hooked us. I'm not sure where this idea came from but we wrestled for a long time with what we were actually doing coming up witht these things. The Corkscrews were written over a long, long time— meaning
as long as we have been writing
together. They were written by phone, by letter, by email, by any conceivable means of communication. One or two of them pop up now and then even yesterday or today although the bulk of them aslo date from the late 1990's. Some of them are breathtaking. Of all the things we have
written I think we are most mystified by these. They leap out sometimes fully formed, somtimes only a shadow.

Some comments recomendations and suggestions about how you might read the Corkscrews.

We were thinking of holding back half of the Corkscrews to let them loose on the world in slow waves. Then we decided that given the way the world works we might as well send them into the world naked, huddling together. Maybe in numbers there is some safety.

You do have a choice. The Corkscrews are broken into four books or so, each of which comes with a little story introducing them. You can leap into the corkscrews or you can read them with a little introductory story. We would recommend going in from a story. For one thing the story makes a point about the corkscrews that helps you understand what they are about.
