About the Poems

I have always written poetry. Morris Janowitz with whom I studied Sociology at the U of M a while ago said, "You aren't a poet when you call yourself a poet; you're a poet when someone else calls you a poet." He was right but be that as it may, poet or not, here is the poetry, all of it.

about how you might read
the Collected Poetry

There is a fair amount of stuff in this collection. I've made it easier to see if it is worth going through by making a set of selections that will give you a taste of what you'll find if you wade through the collection. I selected three samples: They are the poems that I like. The first is a sample of the poems I remember and like the best. The second is a sampling of the Chinese poems - the poems I wrote in the year I taught in China- and the third is a collection of bawdy poetry.
